Latest Changes to the New York Jets Roster and Practice Squad: A Fan's Take - Yahoo! Sports

On Friday, NFL teams made massive cuts to bring their team rosters to the maximum 53 players. Today, September 1, the New York Jets made additional changes to their roster. They picked up three players off of waivers and cut three others. Seven players were assigned to the practice squad. This is most likely the first of many changes that will take place over the next week.

More Cuts

Safety Antonio Allen, defensive tackle Marcus Dixon and tight end Dedrick Epps got their walking papers this afternoon. Allen was the Jets seventh-round draft pick this year. Dixon signed with the Jets in 2010 and played the last two seasons with them. He made appearances in the final three games of the preseason. Epps played in three out of the four preseason games. In 2010 he played for the Miami Dolphins. None of these players made the practice squad.

Awarded from Waivers

Once again it looks like the Jets really want to be last year's Miami Dolphins. They picked up nose tackle Isaako Aaitui and wideout Clyde Gates from the Dolphins' practice squad. Not sure why the Jets need another nose tackle, they have Sione Po'uha and Kenrick Ellis. They can use a healthy wide receiver. However, they should seriously reconsider Plaxico Burress who is a monster-threat in the red zone. New York is better off with a proven wideout instead of Miami's cast-offs.

The third player awarded to the Jets from waivers is tight end Konrad Reuland from the San Francisco 49ers. He spent the entire 2011 regular season on San Francisco's practice squad. Gang Green is thin in the tight end department--this could be an okay deal for them.

Practice Squad

Right now, seven players are on the practice squad; wideouts Royce Pollard and Jordan White, linebackers Ricky Sapp and Marcus Dowtin, defensive back Donnie Fletcher, tight end Hayden Smith--the former rugby player, and tackle Paul Cornick.
