The New York Jets have been to the postseason 14 times since changing its name from the New York Titans in 1963. While they have appeared in 25 playoff games, the Jets have just one Super Bowl title, which came in 1968-69.
Here's a look at the top five seasons in the New York Jets' 51-year history:
1) 1968: Clearly, the 1968 season was the best in franchise history, as it represents their lone Super Bowl championship.
After an 11-3 regular season and AFL Championship victory over the Oakland Raiders, the Jets topped the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, in what remains to this day as one of the most stunning upset victories in sports history.
2) 1998: With the legendary Bill Parcells at the helm, the Jets earned the AFC East title with a 12-4 record, including seven victories over teams that ultimately made the playoffs that season.
Despite the challenging schedule, the Jets excelled and earned a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round. The only thing that stopped them from reaching their first Super Bowl in thirty years was running into a tough Denver Broncos team led by John Elway in the AFC Championship Game.
3) 2010: Even most Jets fans would probably admit they expected their team to bow out from the playoffs quietly when their first-round opponent turned out to be the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts.
In a stunning turn of events, Mark Sanchez propelled the Jets to upset playoff victories over both the Colts and the New England Patriots, before falling short against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. The Jets finished with an 11-5 record, good enough for second in the AFC East.
4) 1982: 1982 was a bizarre season that featured a eight-week players strike, which changed the format of the playoffs to the top eight teams from each conference advancing.
The Jets, which finished sixth in the AFC, edged the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Raiders in the opening two rounds of the postseason, but fell short against the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Championship Game.
5) 2009: With a rookie coach and rookie quarterback leading the way, the 2009 installment of the New York Jets captivated the Big Apple.
Rex Ryan's brash personality got his team fired up, and Mark Sanchez was the perfect complement to the Jets' ground-and-pound style in 2009, and the team finished with a 9-7 regular season record.
After convincing playoff wins over the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals, the Jets fell short against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game.
