Jan 11, 2012 - New Jersey Devils center Travis Zajac has been shut down by the team for two weeks as he continues to battle through a sore Achilles tendon.
The recommendation to rest Zajac came from the surgeon who originally operated on the tendon in August. With the all star break coming, the Devils' center will have a three week break.
Zajac hasn't played since January 2 in Ottawa. He began skating this week and thought he would be ready to play on the road trip, possibly tonight against Edmonton. But the Devils flew him to Winnipeg to be re-examined.
Zajac originally tore his left Achilles tendon during his offseason training on August 17. Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record reported that general manager Lou Lamoriello wouldn't release any specifics on what the surgeon told him.
In eight games this season, Zajac recorded three points (1g, 2a) and was a minus-2. He'll meet with the team in Winnipeg Thursday and fly back to New Jersey with the team after their game Saturday.
