"It’s been a wild year in a lot of different ways,’’ Manning told The Post. "From a career standpoint, you know last year I was coming off a rough year, a lot of interceptions, [we] didn’t make the playoffs again. I knew I needed to play better football than what I was playing.
"I never doubted that I could. I was making a lot of plays but then I’d make that one bad decision. I knew if I could change that, we had the offense â€" along with our defense â€" to be a good team. We did that. We made the playoffs and got hot at the right time and won another championship which was fun.
"I had the addition of my daughter [Ava] also. So it’s been a big year. It’s been a lot of fun. I’m just enjoying every second of it.’’
The Giants should give Osi Umenyiora what he wants, before it's too late | Capital New York
All of this goes toward saying that the Giants should try to lock up Umenyiora to a reasonable contract extension as soon as possible, if such an option exists. Umenyiora has hinted that he’s willing to give the Giants a "hometown" discount on his contract rather than going to another team, (a comment that seems at odds with his contention that he was hurt about not being a starter). If the Giants can mollify his feelings, they should take him up on his offer.

The 2011 NFL Draft had gone 27 picks before the New Orleans Saints made a startling selection: They chose a running back! Alabama's Mark Ingram was the only runner taken in the opening round.
The 2012 NFL Draft won't go that long before a running back is chosen. Like Ingram, Trent Richardson is from Alabama. And quite possibly like Ingram, he will be the only running back selected April 26 in the first round.
"Most [teams], they try not to take us like they used to in the first round," Richardson conceded. "But hopefully I can change that, or more guys in this draft can change that. Mark, he went in the first round and I know he's loving where he's at. So when it comes down to it, hopefully I can do the same thing, but go early in the first round."
Richardson may not last past the Cleveland Browns, who own the fourth pick. Unless Boise State's Doug Martin, Miami's Lamar Miller or Virginia Tech's David Wilson sneak into the bottom of the opening round, the next running back's name won't be called until Day 2.
It's just another indication how the National Football League has become a passing league, where quarterbacks, receivers, left tackles, pass rushers and cover corners are coveted ahead of running backs and run-stop linebackers.

Linebacker Clint Sintim, who missed last season with a knee injury, reported that his surgically repaired knee is on the mend and that he is looking forward to getting back to the gridiron.

"Look at going into last season, people were asking, ‘What were we going to do without having Steve Smith? What were we going to do without having Kevin Boss?’ " said Giants tackle David Diehl. "It was the same questions. And look at it. Guys stepped up. Victor Cruz, Jake Ballard.

The deal with Jones appears to be this: He's a guy the Giants liked enough to draft in the third round. Had the accident never happened, their plan was for him to have been a part of their secondary by now. Life intervened, and so he is not. But if he gets healthy enough to participate in football activities, he's somebody who can become a part of their program, albeit two years later than they planned. Should that happen ... well, they'll see.
There's no way for the Giants to make a plan for this or any other season that has Jones in it. If he plays in the NFL, this year or any other year, it will have to qualify as a pleasant surprise. And everybody's always happy to adjust for those. The Giants will give Jones all the help he needs to complete his comeback. They'll pull for him. And everyone in the organization will feel a tremendous sense of pride and appreciation if he pulls it off. But as great as his recovery story is to this point, we're still a long way from knowing when or whether he'll be able to take the field as a Giant.
