New York Giants: Updating Will Beatty's Status for Week 2 - Bleacher Report

The New York Giants' offensive line struggled in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Wednesday, but that could change for Week 2 as Will Beatty should see the field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.

According to ESPN New York's Ohm Youngmisuk, Beatty is waiting for head coach Tom Coughlin to give him the nod to return to the starting lineup, as he took reps with the first and second team on Monday.

"If I don't feel any pain, I feel good. Last week I felt good and ready to go during the game. Gave me a few plays. ... Felt good during those plays and I'm just waiting until he gives me the go-ahead."

Beatty missed the entire offseason of OTAs, minicamp and training camp with a bad back, but feels that he's ready to return to the lineup.

It's uncertain whether Beatty will return to his left tackle position or if Sean Locklearâ€"who started at LT against Dallas on Wednesday nightâ€"will remain in the starting lineup while Beatty serves as an extra blocker in certain offense sets.

As for anyone questioning whether Beatty is ready to see playing time, he squashed those notions by letting everyone know that he's been testing himself against teammates Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora, two of the best pass-rushers in the game.

"I'm still going against Osi and JPP full-go, like letting them know that I'm in here," he said. "Once you're in there, as a O-Line [starter in a game], you're in there. It's not both take a few plays, come out. ... So I'm just waiting for him to give me a go out there."

The Giants could use Beatty back on the offensive line after they failed to rush for more than 100 yards and allowed three sacks of Eli Manning against the Cowboys in Week 1.

Beatty played well in 10 games for the G-Men in 2011 before a detached retina in his right eye forced him to miss the remainder of the season.

The fourth-year lineman should bolster the Giants' offensive line if he plays against the Bucs on Sunday, as Tampa's D ranked dead-last in rushing yards per game in 2011, surrendering more than 156 yards per contest.
