When New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis was accidentally kicked in the head by linebacker Bart Scott toward the end of Week 1's game, it did not look so bad. Many fans and observers thought Revis would be ready to go in Week 2.
However, he never made the trip to Pittsburgh, and the result was a 27-10 Pittsburgh victory as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger exploited the Jets' secondary.
In surprising news this afternoon, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has reported that Revis might miss the Jets' Week 3 game against the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Rex Ryan said:
I don’t think you can assume [Revis will play]. To the NFL standards, he has to pass those tests. Right now, he looks to be doing well, so hopefully he will be playing.
Losing Revis for another week would be a big setback, as his absence make the Jets otherwise top-notch defense vulnerable to passing attacks. Jets fans have to be reminded of Week 2 of the 2011 season, when star center Nick Mangold was lost to injury during a blowout victory.
Week 1 of the 2012 season is starting to look more like another Pyrrhic victory.
