Before Justin Tuck (l.), Eli Manning and the Giants rode down the Canyon of Heroes in February, Big Blue coach chatted with President Obama, who praised the team for its mental toughness.

The Giants have a date with President Obama.

The Super Bowl champs will visit the White House on Friday, June 8, coach Tom Coughlin said after the team's organized training activities on Wednesday.

It's an appointment that the team has been planning since February. The Giants received their official invitation to visit the president in Washington, D.C., on the Tuesday morning before their Super Bowl victory parade. Coughlin and the president spoke on the phone, during which the president congratulated the coach on his Super Bowl victory in a five-minute chat.

President Obama told Coughlin he watched the game and Coughlin told the crowd at MetLife Stadium that the president praised the team for being รข€œcourageous, mentally tough, resilient people who believed in each other."

WITHERSPOON INJURED
The Giants haven't even started training camp, and they may have already lost a corner. Cornerback Brian Witherspoon, who tore his ACL last August, was injured during Wednesday's OTA session. He was carted off the field, and could once again be done for the year.

"I'm afraid it was an ACL," Coughlin said after the workout.

That could mean a premature end to Witherspoon's season for a second straight year.

Witherspoon was not the only Giant injured on Wednesday, either. Fellow corner Antwuan Molden, signed away from the rival Patriots this offseason, was carted off the field with a hamstring injury.

NEAR-PERFECT ATTENDANCE
The Giants had near full attendance in their first OTA. Only four players were not present: DT Chris Canty, TE Jake Ballard (who is rehabbing a torn ACL sustained in Super Bowl XLVI), rookie TE Adrien Robinson (who is wrapping classes up at the University of Cincinnati), and DE Osi Umenyiora, who had not been expected to attend.

OTAs are voluntary and players do not need to attend.
