NFL Draft Rumors: New York Jets Shouldn't Trade Up for Trent Richardson - Bleacher Report

The New York Jets could be looking to trade up in order to draft stud running back, Trent Richardson, but such a move wouldn't be the best thing for the Jets.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, GM Mike Tannenbaum is exploring possible deals that would move his team up to the No. 4 pick that is currently owned by the Cleveland Browns.

3. Round 1 game plan. Here's what I expect the Jets to do Thursday night in the first round: A. Explore the possibility of trading way up for Alabama RB Trent Richardson

While Richardson should be a star in this league one day and running back is a pressing need for the Jets, it isn't the position that will put this team over the top.

New York has a ton of holes they need to fill through the draft and without much money to make moves during the offseason, this is the only way they will solve their problems. Trading for Richardson would command a huge package of picks that would help shorten the Jets' draft significantly.

Coming in at the No. 1 most pressing need for the Jets is offensive line.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez has been getting pounded the past few seasons and that can't help a young quarterback trying to progress. Not to mention, the Jets had one of the worst running games in the NFL last season and a bad offensive line was one of the causes.

They can have all the great running backs they want, but if there's nobody to block, it means absolutely nothing.

Coming in at the No. 2 most pressing need is a pass-rusher.

The Jets' normally scary defense wasn't all that scary last season and as a result, they desperately need a pass-rusher. With their current pick, the Jets could land a defensive end, or, if need be, trade up to a more realistic spot to do so.

Bottom line: the Jets have way too many pressing needs to limit their amount of picks by throwing a huge package of draft picks at the Browns in order to land Trent Richardson.

We'll see if Tannenbaum and the Jets can help themselves on this one and not sacrifice filling out their roster for the sexier, front page-grabbing name that Richardson has.
