New York Jets Draft Analysis - Examiner.com

OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: B

The New York Jets finished yesterdays draft with picks distributed amongst the sixth (3 picks) and seventh (2 picks) rounds.

The Jets started off the draft strong, selecting standout defensive end, Quinton Coples, from North Carolina. Coples, though having a slow senior season, is built for the NFL. At 6’6, 285 pounds, Coples can fit in anywhere amongst the Jets D-line and will make his presence known immediately.

After trading with Seattle in the second round, the Jets moved up to select Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech. The 6’4, 215 pound receiver is already receiving “Megatron” comparisons with his 4.36 40-yard dash and 39.5-inch vertical.

The Jets went back to defense in the third round, selecting Arkansas State’s Demario Davis. Davis is a 6’2, 236 pound outside linebacker that was clocked at a 4.61 40 yard dash. The athletic linebacker also had a 38.5-inch vertical and benched 225 pounds 32 times.

The rest of Jets picks came with the role of backup, especially with the Jets next pick, Josh Bush, who is a safety from Wake Forest and was drafted by Gang Green in the sixth round. The pick raised a slew of fan’s eyebrows as he was selected over San Jose State’s Duke Inhenacho and Wiscon’s Aaron Henry. Bush came in for a visit in April, so hopefully the Jets front office knows something we do not.

The next two sixth round picks came from Baylor, as the Jets selected running back, Terrance Ganaway and guard Robert T. Griffin. Ganaway, a 6ft, 240 pound running back played a complimentary role in the high profiled Baylor offense. The hardnosed, bruising back runs a 4.67 40 yard dash and was quick to the holes guard Robert T. Griffin provided. Griffin is a big-bodied guard at 6-6, 335 pounds. He provided solid protection for both his Heisman quarterback and running back. Both will most likely compete for minutes as backups.

In the final round of the 2012 draft, the Jets added to both their secondary and receiving corps. First the Jets added South Carolina’s Antonio Allen. Allen, a tough strong safety, will compete with fellow draft pick Josh Bush for minutes. The Jets also selected Western Michigan’s Jordan White. Though coming from a small Mid-American conference, White has a legitimate shot at filling the Jets fifth receiver position. White is a powerful receiver at 6ft, 210 pounds.

The Jets notable undrafted free agent signings are; Utah OL John Cullen; Boston College CB Donnie Fletcher; William Penn DL Damon Harrison; Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne; Michigan State TE Brian Linthicum; Montana K Brody McKnight; Nevada DT Brett Roy; Furman CB Ryan Steed

GEM: Stephen Hill, Georgia Tech â€" 2nd round pick. Hill is the perfect replacement for Plaxico and the Jets lost receivers. He has the height and speed to be the deep threat the Jets need and the big body to go across the middle.

BUST: Josh Bush, Wake Forest â€" 6th round pick. Bush was not the strongest selection for the Jets. Luckily, they drafted Antonio Allen who will help support the Jets already talented secondary.
